upscale restaurant
The restaurant Alterbar Gastropub’s design revolved around the concept of aging. Within the parameters of this concept, the focus was on the transition from new to old, and the alteration that takes place during this transition. Aging conveys an evolution into an older version with more to tell. This is shown by changes in texture/appearance, strength, and other variables that can make it more complex. Aging is also viewed as going from more lively and social, to more private and intimate as time goes on. Materiality, as well as the division and transition of space, demonstrate this concept in Alterbar.

The blue area represents the aging area, serving as the dining area. Inhabitants here are more intimate and keep to themselves (private). |
